Today we are excited to announce the launch of our new project, The Spare Change Library; or, The Dime Novel & Popular Literature Podcast! This podcast will include audio editions of dime novels and other early popular literature as well as episodes featuring scholarship about these types of stories. This podcast is a part of dimenovels.org, the Edward T. LeBlanc Memorial Dime Novel Bibliography. For more information and to download the first episode and/or subscribe to the podcast RSS feed, go to the main podcast page here.
“Lancelot Darling & Friends” is our name for the production unit behind the podcast, named after the hero of one of our favorite dime novels, Mrs. Alex. McVeigh Miller’s The Bride of the Tomb; or, Lancelot Darling’s Betrothed (which is also the first novel we’re recording). This blog will highlight some of the behind-the-scenes action of producing a podcast, starting with a look at our equipment and setup.
Our equipment includes the following: a 13″ MacBook Pro and a Blue Yeti USB microphone. We use Audacity for recording and editing the audio. We read from a Project Gutenberg edition of The Bride of the Tomb. We use a library meeting room for our “recording studio.”
New episodes of The Bride of the Tomb will be released each week on Thursdays. Stay tuned for more adventures here on the blog! You can follow us on Twitter, too: @SpareChangeLib.
